The haveli
Built from fragments of Banaras.
Aghora sits in a quiet lane off Mansarovar Ghat Road, in Bangali Tola, one of the oldest quarters of Varanasi.
The rooms keep the character of the house: arched wall niches, old panelled doors and shutters, and hand-plastered walls, softened with simple textiles, handwoven rugs and woven mudha stools.
The palette comes from the old city itself: oxblood and ivory, dusky saffron, moss and bamboo. Small, sattvic and calm, so the days can slow to the rhythm of the lanes and the river.
